Jingdong LED plant factory produces 300 tons of green leafy vegetables per year
In the Jingdong Plant Factory located in Tongzhou, Beijing, vegetables grow in a comfortable environment created by computer automatic environmental control technology, relying on artificial LED light sources, Internet of Things technology, hydroponic cultivation and other means to achieve year-round growth and picking, every year 300 tons of green leafy vegetables can be produced for the market.
It is reported that in the early stage of construction, the plant factory has gone through various industry researches and went to Japan to inspect the Mitsubishi plant factory project. In 2018, the Jingdong Plant Factory was officially completed, becoming the largest solar and artificial light combined plant factory in China.
Wu Zhongsheng, the relevant person in charge of the Jingdong plant factory, introduced that the plant factory can maintain the temperature, humidity and light in the greenhouse in the most suitable state for vegetable growth all year round through manual intervention technology, and is completely unaffected by the outdoor season and air.
Different from traditional soil cultivation methods, Jingdong Plant Factory adopts hydroponic cultivation. Hydroponic cultivation, also known as nutrient solution cultivation, is one of the methods of soilless cultivation. Its characteristic is that it does not need soil, but relies on the circulation of nutrient solution. In addition to providing water, the nutrient solution also provides various elements required for plant growth.
The plant factory also imports advanced intelligent equipment, nutrient solution testing instruments (EC/PH value) and water purification equipment from Japan. Combined with manual intervention technology, NFT, capillary hybrid cultivation technology and nutrient solution, the quality of vegetables is safer. Rest assured, various nutrients are also added to the water according to different plants.
The cultivation method of full hydroponics + special nutrient solution can make the temperature of the nutrient solution controllable, the vegetable roots can absorb oxygen well, and save water, which is more than 90% less than conventional planting. Not only that, the nutrient solution can also be recycled, and the entire plant factory is close to zero emissions.

Due to the use of complete sets of plant factory technology, there is no difference between low and high seasons, and it is less affected by the natural environment. Sowing, planting, and harvesting can be done every day of the year, and continuous production is continuous, which fully meets market demand.
Taking spinach as an example, the average production cycle of spinach grown in plant factories is about 19 crops per year, while that of spinach grown in ordinary fields does not exceed 4 crops a year, and that of ordinary greenhouses does not exceed 6 crops a year. The efficiency is three or four times higher. . Moreover, its folic acid content is 80% higher than that of ordinary spinach, its vitamin content is 32% higher, its potassium content is 25% higher, and its phosphorus content is 37% higher.
In addition, plant factory seed quality control, intelligent seedling raising, automated and digitalized water fertilization, solar greenhouse production, and unified specification harvesting all strictly follow standardized processes and international authoritative testing standards throughout the process. The hydroponic vegetable seeds grown in a fully environment-controlled environment have no soil, are clean and refreshing, and can be eaten by consumers without cleaning after purchase.
Wu Zhongsheng also introduced that the plant factory creates an environment suitable for the growth of vegetable seedlings through artificial light, temperature, light, humidity, carbon dioxide concentration and other natural conditions required for plant growth in the computer control box. In such an environment, the vegetable seedlings can grow in about 15 days. They can be taken out from the nursery room and planted on the cultivation bed, and can be harvested after 25 days of growth.
It is worth mentioning that, with advanced technology and management capabilities, Jingdong Plant Factory is also favored by some scientific research institutions to help them try new varieties.
